Prayers for general needs

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11 vs 28 & 29 - NIV)

Prayers when you are anxious

Jesus said,
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” (Matthew 6 vs 27 and 34 - NIV)


Dear Lord God, 

Please look on my concerns and anxieties with understanding.

Remind me that Jesus tells me not to be anxious.

Assure me of your concern for me and for those I care for.

Surround me with the comfort of your love and strengthen my faith to trust in your goodness. Amen

Prayers for loneliness

“Turn to me, Lord, and help me because I am lonely and weak” (Psalm 25 v16)

Jesus said, “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper who will stay with you for ever” (John 14 v 16 – GNB)

Father God, 

When I am feeling lonely give me your assurance that I am your valued child, 

and that you want me and all your children to have an abundant and fulfilling life.

Give me the courage to reach out to others.

I pray in trust to Jesus who was a friend to all in need. Amen

“Loneliness was the first thing that God’s eye named not good” (John Milton, referring to the story of creation in Genesis) “The Lord God said, ‘it is not good for man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him.’” (Genesis 2 v 18 – GNB)

Prayers for loss or bereavement

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

Lord God,

I pray that you will help me as I come to terms with the loss I am experiencing in my life.

May I know that you are always there, surrounding me with your love and your strength, and that your presence is healing and nourishment for my soul.

I pray that I will continually feel you close to me, and that I will allow myself to grieve my loss in my own way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

Prayers for Healing

“I am the Lord who heals you.” (Exodus 15 v 26)

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23 v 1)

Lord Jesus, hear my prayer.

You know all of my needs for healing of body, mind and spirit.

Please give my whole being the comfort and healing,

Before an operation

Loving Father, help me to put myself into your hands trusting in you.

I pray that you will watch over me, protect me and give me strength to make a good recovery.

Give me peace in my heart and help me to feel calm.

Bless and guide the surgeons and all who assist them.

I commit to you my loved ones at home who are worrying about me.

Prayers for Family and Relationships

A prayer for family

Dear Heavenly Father, please shine your light upon my family.

Give us strength to overcome all of the difficulties that we are dealing with now.

Protect us against any problems we may encounter in the future.

 May the love that binds grow stronger.

Grant us forgiveness for any sins we have committed.

May we also forgive one another Lord, as it is sometimes difficult to do.

A prayer for relationships

Lord, bless relationships between partners that they may be loving, forgiving, merciful and strong.

Bless the relationships between each generation that they may be full of peace and love and that understanding may flow between each one.

Lord heal relationships when they are troubled, bringing peace and reconciliation.

A prayer for Carers and the burdens they carry
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)

 “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

Heavenly Father, thank you that you are always there.

I pray that you will provide me with the strength and purpose that I need to continue caring for those that have been placed under my supervision, and that you will help me to recognise that I do not have to do everything in my own strength.

Thank you that you have a plan and a purpose for my life, that you love me and those I care for.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer of Thankfulness

“Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good and his love is eternal.” (Psalm 118 v1)

For all the goodness in my life. Thank you.

For all the beauty of your creation. Thank you.

For the blessings of life, breath, loving and sharing. Thank you.

I am so very grateful. Thank you Lord.

Lord I come to you in thankfulness for all you have sacrificed for me through your son Jesus Christ.

You made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for my sins.

Thank you that you loved me that much.

Grant me your grace to love others as you love me.

May I always be humble before you. In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.

 

A Prayer for Forgiveness

“Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.” (Matthew 6 v 12)

“For by the sacrificial death of Christ we are set free, that is our sins are forgiven. How great is the grace of God which he gave to us in such large measure.” ( Ephesians 1 vv 7,8)

Dear Lord, As we all do, I have done something wrong .

The reasons seemed alright at the time but I can get no peace and I need to tell you about it.

I need to confess to you .............................................

Lord I ask for your forgiveness, your peace and the freedom of a clear conscience.

Thank you Lord that your word tells us that you have promised that if we confess and are truly sorry, you will forgive.

Lord in your mercy I claim your promised forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord and His sacrifice on the cross.

Lord grant me assurance of your pardon and peace. Amen

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our (sins) from us.” ( Psalm 103 v 12)

Forgiving Others

“Peter asked, “Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times? “No, not seven times but seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18 vv 21-22)

Father, I am hurting, resentful and angry.

I have been wronged. but I know you understand.

Grant me the grace to forgive so that I may be healed.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

A prayer when feeling distant from God

God said “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Jesus said “All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.” (John 6:37)

Lord God, I am feeling far away from you at the moment.

Help me to know that you are always there for me,

and that I can talk to you at any time of day or night.

Thank you that you know me better than anyone else on earth and that you love me unconditionally.

Help me to accept that you have a plan for my life and that you are a God who cares. Amen.
